Day 43

Tuesday morning I woke up around 9:30 and got busy right away doing homework for my grammar class that afternoon. It included rewriting a few assignments that I had made grammatical mistakes on and reading an article about immigrants living in Germany who try to learn the German language. Pretty interesting stuff. I had a late lunch and then headed to the office for class.

Class was interesting as usual. We started with a game where we picked random letters and Michaela wrote them down on the chalkboard. Then she said that for each set of two letters, we had to think of German words that started and ended with the letters that had been written. We paired up into teams. I worked with Anneke and Stephen worked with Erica. It was a tough game, but it was good to activate the language before we started talking about the grammar lesson for the day.

After class, I went back to my dorm to get changed. As part of Monday’s theater class, we were all going to see Der Streit in a small theater within walking distance from Andy’s and my dorm. Andy came to my room about 15 minutes beforehand and asked if I knew where I was going. I said yes, that I’d be ready in a few, and that I’d meet him in the lobby.

It probably took us 15 minutes at the most to find the theatre. We had gotten there early so we decided to go to a cafe and relax until it came time to meet our professor at the theater. We chit-chatted for about 30 minutes and then headed back to the theater. We met our professor there.

The play itself had been adapted from its original form, but was done in a good way. And, since we had read the script beforehand, everything was really easy to understand. After the performance we got a chance to speak with the director and ask him any questions that we had. It was interesting to hear his opinions on his adaptation of the story.

After all of that Erica, Andy, and I walked back to Mariahilferstraße and headed back to our dorms. I put my nice clothes that I had worn to the play away, took a shower, and went to bed.
