Day 44

This last week's worth of posts is all about catching myself up so don't be too surprised if they're a little sparse. Wednesday I got up as usual and got some work done since I didn't have anything until 2:00. When 1:00 rolled around I got dressed and left to get to class. Yes, I got there about 20 minutes early, but I wanted to make sure that I had enough time to account for a possible snafu in my plans. Luckily, that never happened.

Music Theory started off pretty well, but every once in a while I noticed my attention veering off track. To be fair the class was two hours long so it was kind of excusable. I learned that the German way to do music is with the letter h. The example that I was given was C, D, E, F, G, A, H, C. H equals what is normally B and B represents what is normally Bb. That combined with calling a C# cis or an F# fis, I was pretty lost at first.

After music class I headed back to the office and waited there until my literature class. For the first half of the class we talked about the novella we had read throughout the previous week then we eventually transitioned to watching a film adaptation of the same story. I had to leave early to go to choir practice at 7:55, but Dr. Eschenmüller said that that was okay.

When I got to the choir room, which was only a five minute walk away, I had to wait in line to buy my copy of the music and pay the enrollment fee. I hadn't known about this beforehand so I could only pay the €10 for the music. I sat down with the rest of the tenors and we began working and did so until about 10:00. I could almost swear that by the end my throat was either bleeding or I wouldn't have a voice the next day. Needless to say it was a tough rehearsal, especially as it was my first.

At the end of rehearsal Vijay, the director, announced that there would be practice on Saturday. I couldn't do that because of the opera workshop I was doing, so after he was done I told him that if this was going to be a regular thing then I couldn't be a part of the choir. I handed my music back in and got my money back. I felt kind of bad about it, but on my ride home I felt SO relieved. Yes, I had made it into the choir, but I wasn't stuck doing it. Plus, the music selection was classical, which just isn't in my top anything preference-wise other than for study music, in which case it is the only thing that I can listen to.

Despite the late start it had been a long, exhausting day. When I got home, I had an apple for a snack and headed straight to bed. I fell asleep very quickly!
